Kwan — Discover Ghana
Video-First Ghana Travel Documentation
What "Kwan" Means
Twi for "path" or "road." The platform is a path into Ghanaian communities most travel sites never reach.
The Collaboration
Built with Nii, a content creator and filmmaker based in Ghana. Nii films, edits, and produces all video content from the ground in Ghana. I build and maintain the platform and manage content from the U.S. We're starting with the Volta Region.
The Thesis
Most travel sites are blog-first: read about a place, then maybe see a thumbnail. Kwan flips that. Each community is anchored by a cinematic documentary that is the experience — supported by short contextual text and verified local essentials. Tourists watch a place before they ever visit it.
What Each Community Page Hosts
- A main cinematic documentary — the centerpiece
- Short contextual text on history and culture
- Verified local essentials — accommodation, food, key attractions
- Short-form video integration that funnels social-media traffic back to the full documentaries
Verified, Not Crowdsourced
Every listing is verified in person by Nii on the ground. No scraped reviews, no aggregated ratings — just trusted local information from someone who's actually been there.
Long-Term Vision
Build long-term trust and traffic that can later support eco-tourism: an eco-lodge, curated travel experiences, and tour-guide services. The platform earns the right to become a booking engine by first earning the audience as a documentary archive.
Build Runway
3.5 months of platform development before deployment. Equipment procurement plan in place for filming gear. I travel to Ghana in early July to deliver equipment, scout communities with Nii, do test filming, and potentially publish the first community page on-site together.

Why This Project
This is a collaborative passion project, not a paid client engagement. The value here is the cross-cultural collaboration, the video-first architecture, and the long-arc commitment. It's the kind of work where the timelines and outcomes are measured in years, not sprints.
